Winter Wonderland November 2008
Quite often guests ask us whether we get snow in winter. Our answer is that we usually get snow once every year, but that it doesn´t usually stay very long. ´El Paraje´ is situated at an altitude of 1,400 metres - we are probably one of the highest located Casas Rurales in Spain - and the snow line is in general above 2,000 metres. In the almost eight years that we live in Bérchules, we never had snow as early as November and the amount that came down in just a couple of hours was really impressive. On Sunday morning we had to clear away quite a lot of snow in order for guests to be able to leave. We had no electricity for twenty-four hours, but luckily everything is now back to normal. It has left us with a picturesque landscape, especially when the sun is out. The temperature at the moment is below cero so the snow is here to stay a little bit longer. After having enjoyed the outdoors ´El Paraje´ is a comfortable house to return to, as we keep the fire place and underfloor heating going.
